Earlier this fall, the “Martha Property”, an incredible 110-acre parcel at the tip of the Tiburon Peninsula, finally became public land after decades of controversy. The purchase was made possible thanks to the leadership of Jerry Riessen and Tiburon Open Space, critical support from the Trust for Public Land, and the taxpayers who supported Measure M. The acquisition of this land will nearly double the size of the Old Saint Hilary’s Open Space Preserve for the enjoyment of all.
On November 20, Mayor Alice Fredericks presented Jerry Riessen a Town Council resolution in recognition of his work and leadership in assembling the community and advocating for the acquisition of the Martha Company land. In their resolution, the Town Council applauded the community, and the expertise organized with the leadership of Jerry Riessen, for saving this little corner of the earth as an ecological system of protected species, as a recreational and educational amenity, and as a place that defines the Tiburon community as stewards of this earth.
