Climate Action Plan

A Climate Action Plan (CAP) is a public document which:

  • Helps us to understand how the community contributes to climate change
  • Sets targets for how much to reduce these contributions by a certain year
  • Outlines a path to meet that goal

This CAP is grounded in Tiburon’s understanding that climate change is already impacting California and the world and will continue to affect Marin’s residents and businesses for the foreseeable future, as well as other communities around the world. The Town also recognizes that local governments play a strong role in reducing GHG emissions in their municipal operations and communities and mitigating the future impacts of climate change.

Tiburon aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 50% below 1990 levels by 2030 with the full implementation of the CAP.

Planning for Climate Adaptation and Sea Level Rise

In addition to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, the Town is also advancing efforts to adapt to the impacts of climate change, including sea level rise and flooding.

A thorough procurement process began in August 2025 to secure a consultant team to help Tiburon develop its own Sea Level Rise Vulnerability Assessment and Adaptation Plan.

Following the Regional Subregional Adaptation Plan (RSAP) Guidelines, Tiburon’s project will address all Elements A through G. This includes completing a comprehensive existing conditions and vulnerability assessment and developing a strategic adaptation framework to guide future resilience planning.

These efforts will help the Town better understand local vulnerabilities, identify priority adaptation actions, and strengthen community resilience to climate-related risks. Learn more about how Tiburon is preparing for sea level rise
