Rainfall and winds are expected this weekend. Winter conditions can cause flooding, landslides, and power outages. Take steps now to prepare!
Protect Your Property - Use Sandbags & Take Wind Precautions
If you are in an area that may flood, have sandbags in place prior to the rainstorms. The Department of Public Works has set up two sandbag stations for your use. Sand and sand bags are available at the Blackie's Pasture and Teather Park parking lots. Please feel free to help yourself. Learn how to sandbag on the Get Ready 94920 website.
Heavy winds may cause heavy items left outdoors to be blown about, fallen trees, and downed power lines. Secure all patio furniture, boats, and other items to protect your home. In the event of a fallen tree or downed power line, stay clear of the area and call the Police Department at (415)789-2800 and they will notify the appropriate response personnel.
Be prepared to receive information. Sign up for Alert Marin emergency alerts at alertmarin.org.
Local emergency information, including weather, power outages, and road closures can be found at emergency.marincounty.org. Winter tips and local information can be heard on SNAP radio at 840AM. Complete weather information, including weather alerts, can be found at weather.gov.
In the event of a power outage, information on the outage can be obtained at (800) 743-5000. To report a new outage or problem, call PG&E at (800)743-5002. Be prepared for outages by having battery operated lanterns, lamps or lights ready and easily accessible and keep your devices charged.
Inspect your property for land movement, retaining wall failure or drainage ditch and downspouts issues. Clean out ditches, drains and gutters for proper water flow away from your structure. Know multiple escape routes from your home and yard and evacuate from your property if you discover earth movement or landslide.
When driving in the rain, use extra caution and always have your headlights on. Remember, if you turn on your windshield wipers, turn on your headlights. Please obey the speed limits and follow other traffic at a safe distance. If traffic lights are out at an intersection, treat it as a four-way stop. Do not drive through flooded areas - turn around and find an alternate route.
