Artist Exhibition: Robert Hightower

Monday, February 2, 2026

What We Hold presents a body of figurative work centered on restraint, tension, and the quiet weight carried through the body. Across black-and-white paintings and color works anchored by black-and-white figures, the exhibition focuses on gesture, posture, and moments of containment. Hands, positioning, and physical stillness become indicators of emotional pressure, inviting viewers to consider what is held onto, what is withheld, and what is endured.

An opening reception will be held on Thursday, February 26 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

About the artist:
Robert Hightower is a Bay Area–based visual artist whose work explores tension, containment, and the moments that precede change. Using a restrained palette and a raw, physical approach to paint, his work focuses on states of holding rather than resolution. Figures, objects, and space are treated as carriers of weight, memory, and consequence. His practice is driven by instinct, repetition, and pause, allowing meaning to surface slowly rather than declare itself.
