North Bay Area residents can get a free hands-on, in-person demonstration with induction cooking from professional chef Scott Spencer at the North Bay Induction Cooking Expo. It’s taking place at Premier Kitchen & Bath in Santa Rosa (3201 Cleveland Avenue) on Saturday, January 27, starting at 11 AM. The event is hosted by the counties of Sonoma, Marin, and Napa, and is part of the Bay Area Regional Energy Network (BayREN) Home+ program.
Organizers ask that attendees register online prior to the event.
What is induction cooking and why is it gaining popularity among at home chefs? Induction stovetops and ranges use electricity to power a magnet that directly heats cookware. It’s more efficient than traditional “hot plate” electric stoves and provides more cooking control than gas stoves. Switching out gas cooking appliances can also improve indoor air quality, as documented in a Lawrence Berkeley National Lab study. Plus, it’s easier to clean up! Attendees will receive a showcase of the capabilities of induction technology and learn tips and tricks to improve their culinary skills.
Another reason for the increased interest in induction cooking is the number of incentive programs available. Residents can receive funding to help pay for induction stovetops and ranges through programs like BayREN, the Inflation Reduction Act, and the Electrify Marin program from the Sustainability Division of the Marin County Community Development Agency.
The event aligns well with the goals of the Marin County Board of Supervisors and the mission of CDA’s Sustainability Team, both of which support healthy, safe, and sustainable communities while preserving Marin’s environmental heritage. The Sustainability Team has developed programs to promote renewable energy, address climate change, encourage green building, recognize green businesses and implement energy efficiency projects in schools, special districts, cities, and towns. The policies and programs will ensure that Marin is healthy, vibrant and sustainable for many generations into the future.
